The One You Ask Is Good

Jesus begins with a parent's instinct to give what nourishes, then tells us to look at the character of the Father we ask. This is not a promise of easy answers; it is a reason not to expect cruelty.

Scripture · Source
“Or who is there among you, who, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, who will give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”
Matthew 7:9-11 · Word of God
For the one who expects a stone

Let this find them.

A quiet reminder that prayer begins with the character of the One we ask.

Jesus does not say every answer will be easy or arrive in the shape we imagined. He asks us to notice that even flawed parents know not to answer hunger with harm.

Then he points higher: the Father gives what is good. When someone has learned to expect a stone, let this reminder of the Giver's character reach them.
